September 1621- harvest feast with Natives

1623- first Thanksgiving celebrated for relief from drought

June 29, 1676- governing council of Charlestown, Massachusetts held

             Thanksgiving celebration in recognition of the colonists' recent victory over the

             Natives

October 1777- first time that all 13 colonies joined in a thanksgiving celebration

1789- George Washington proclaimed a National Day of Thanksgiving

1863- President Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday in November as a national day of

          Thanksgiving.

1941- Thanksgiving was finally sanctioned by Congress as a legal holiday, as the fourth

           Thursday in November
